Fashion Muse: Carolina Issa

Classic with an edge (it’s all in the details): {left} a beautiful tweed blazer with tough leather accents over a v-neck sweater and oxford with a studded collar and orange skinnies. {right} Black on black on black, but I can’t get over the huge pyramid studs on the sleeves. So. Bad.

There’s never really been one woman who’s stood out as a “fashion icon” for me—my style philosophy has always been about following my instincts and wearing what I like and what feels like “me,” regardless of passing trends.  I think that’s what draws me so keenly to Ms. Issa; the graceful ease with which she carries her strong yet relaxed style is so appealing because it’s not overdone. Carolina rocks a pop of bold color, knows how to mix patterns like it’s nobody’s business, and shares my devout adoration of cateye sunglasses, yet it’s always as if she’s completely unaware of how darn great she looks. It doesn’t hurt she’s the fashion director for Tank Magazine (a fashion & art mag) and is the quintessential jet setter, attending Fashion Weeks the world over and playing muse to street style bloggers like The Sartorialist and Garance Dore.  I wasn’t gonna say it for fear of sounding like a dweeb, but she’s just so stinkin’ cool.

A chunky cardigan over a knit t with what are surely dry clean only pants and sparkly stilettos. Who does that?? Better question: who does that and looks THIS sick??

Pulling off two pieces of the same pattern on TOP of each other is tough, but here’s the way to do it: keep the palette to a few colors (in this case: white, black, and red) and have a little fun with the accessories (cateye glasses & crazy clutch).

Again, the mixing of the patterns and the crazy shades—OH—and that lovely smile :)

The coat, oversized WHITE bag (I capitalize white to emphasize its appropriateness even AFTER Labor Day, people!!) and boots are perfect for cold, NYC winters. The unexpected pairing with these leopard/pastel painted pants is simply genius.

And with this, Caroline has swiftly convinced me I must add a fur like this to my growing collection. STAT.
